Extension of Time to File Federal and Arizona State Income Taxes Due to COVID-19

March 23, 2020 By Samantha Winter McAlpin In Legal Alerts

March 23, 2020 – The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) has moved the deadline to file and pay state income taxes from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020. This move is consistent with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin’s decision to move the IRS tax filing deadline for 2019 federal tax returns to July 15, 2020.

ADOR’s new deadline impacts individual, corporate, and fiduciary tax returns. No extension request is necessary. Read the ADOR’s announcement here.

For tax filing deadline and payment information for states other than Arizona, please check with each state’s department of revenue.

The IRS’s new deadline applies to all taxpayers, including individuals, corporations, trusts and estates, corporations, and other non-corporate tax filers as well as those who pay self-employment tax. The federal extension is automatic. Taxpayers due a federal refund are encouraged to file as soon as possible, as most tax refunds are still being issued within 21 days.
